Today it’s cold. A shiver-just-from-hearing-the-temperature kind of cold. Today is one of those wonderful “please cook something delicious so the house is warm” days. I was thinking that today would be a good day for making bread.
Oh how the Father delights in making ALL of Scripture point to His Son. There are thousands upon thousands of little nuances that He has tucked into the Word that all point to Jesus. It is His pleasure to glorify His Son…His only Son…the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
Consider with me, if you will, how bread is made. The wheat is crushed, and then we add water and yeast, mixing them together thoroughly. Then, we beat it soundly – slamming it down on the counter, tearing at it and crushing it with our own hands. When we are done, it is then put into the fire of our oven, where heat is poured out upon it. Only after all that, do we remove it from the oven…reveling in its wonderful smell. (Isn’t it interesting that we refer to bread as having “risen”?)
Our Savior’s body was broken…the water of the Word mixed with the sins -leaven- of the world and were added to His broken body. He was beaten, broken and by Father’s own hand, all His wrath was poured out upon our Lord…for us and then He descended into hell. He emerged, whole – a fragrant aroma unto our Lord…He is our Bread of Life.
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities– ALL things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Colossians 1: 16 & 17 NASB
All things – even bread.
