“It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: ‘I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.’ Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.” Romans 9:16-18

Exodus 10:1-2 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials so that I may perform these miraculous signs of mine among them that you may tell your children and grandchildren how I dealt harshly with the Egyptians and how I performed my signs among them, and that you may know that I am the LORD.”

Lynn, YES!!!! That’s what I found this morning – did it hit you in the face too??!!!!!!!!

“that you may know that I am the LORD.” He hardened Pharaoh’s heart that we might know that He is the Lord.

SO, should we assume that if Pharaoh had not had his heart hardened that the children of Israel would assume that he (Pharaoh) was the source of their deliverance rather than the Lord?!!! Does this mean that we should assume that WE do the same thing in our lives? (GULP)

(Susan – you went to the verse that I would have given you were you to ask the question…until this morning. I was BLOWN out of the water. And it’s not like this is the first time I’ve read Exodus for crying out loud. HOW DID I MISS THAT all those times before?!!!!)

  5. Lynn in Alaska says:

I’m sorry to say that, no, that didn’t hit me in the face. But thank you for sharing your insight.
